Turner Sims Southampton welcome the Sultan Stevenson Trio

Emerging young jazz star Sultan Stevenson takes the Turner Sims stage on Thursday 31 October with his brilliant trio. The exciting pianist, awarded a parliamentary jazz award for best newcomer of the year, performs music from his much-praised debut album Faithful One.

A Londoner with roots in the Caribbean, Sultan is a product of both Tomorrow’s Warriors and the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy. He is influenced by the work of many of the greats of the jazz piano, including McCoy Tyner, Geri Allen, Herbie Hancock and Kenny Kirkland. He also has a deep appreciation of Black gospel music, bebop, swing, reggae, funk and hip-hop, as well as the history of Africa and the African diaspora.

Faithful One explores themes of heritage and faith throughout, as Sultan illustrates the significance of his beliefs in his music. His trio is already established as an outfit to catch when billed to play live, and is being tipped for success on national and international stages.
