M/House of JAZZ

M/Darbnīca – M House of Jazz is an independent, non-governmental cultural organisation based in Riga, Latvia. Founded as an NGO a decade ago, it began as a multidisciplinary art and community space bringing together music, visual arts and creative collaboration. Since 2020, the organisation has been operating an active jazz club under the name “M House of Jazz”, which has become one of the key venues for jazz and improvised music in Riga.

Today, our work focuses on presenting a continuous programme of jazz and related genres, featuring both established and emerging Latvian artists as well as international guests. We organise club concerts, small festivals, jam sessions, collaborations with foreign partners, as well as educational and community-building activities. Alongside music, we also host exhibitions and interdisciplinary projects that connect jazz with contemporary visual arts and local creative communities. Our aim is to provide a stable, artist-friendly platform that supports experimentation, international exchange and audience development for jazz.

The organisation is structured as a non-profit NGO with a governing board responsible for strategic decisions and long-term development. Day-to-day operations are managed by a small core team including artistic and managing leadership, supported by producers, technicians and volunteers. Programming decisions are made collectively, in dialogue with musicians and partners, ensuring artistic integrity and responsiveness to the local scene. Financially, the organisation is sustained through a combination of project grants, public support, ticket sales, bar income and private donations, with all surplus reinvested into artistic and community activities.
