The Barencia Green Pilot Tour was initiated by Music Meeting Festival and realised in close collaboration with EJN members Taller de MúsicsLantarenVensterTivoliVredenburg and BIMHUIS, forming a compact and well-connected touring route across the Netherlands. The project was conceived as a practical experiment in low-impact touring, combining artistic quality with concrete sustainability measures.

Throughout the tour, the band travelled using a fully electric car. While adapting to electric mobility required careful planning — particularly around charging points and transport of technical equipment — the experience quickly proved both comfortable and efficient. The need to fit instruments and gear into a small electric vehicle encouraged streamlined production choices and thoughtful logistics.

A central sustainability choice was the decision to base the entire team in one shared accommodation for the full duration of the tour: a villa surrounded by nature near Amersfoort. This significantly reduced daily travel, limited resource consumption, and offered a stable and restorative environment for the musicians — as well as a reliable base for charging the electric vehicle overnight.

Audience response across all venues was highly positive, with strong engagement and a warm reception from presenters and local teams. The consistency of conditions, combined with the supportive network of organisers, contributed to the overall success and relaxed atmosphere of the tour.

At Music Meeting Festival in Nijmegen, the Green Pilot Tour extended beyond performance. Alongside the concert, Barencia took part in a 20-minute workshop and interview, creating a space for direct dialogue with audiences. The band also participated in the festival’s 1+1+1+1 project, a concept by Mats Gustafsson involving intimate one-to-one concerts between musicians and listeners. Barencia joined the project both as performers and as listeners, describing it as one of the most inspiring experiences of the tour.

One planned sustainability action was adapted during the process: instead of printing QR codes on seed paper, the organisers chose to make a €350 donation to Reforesta, supporting reforestation projects with a more tangible environmental impact.

This Green Pilot Tour showed how electric mobility, shared accommodation and strong cooperation between EJN members can form a realistic and repeatable touring model. With careful preparation and committed partners, sustainable touring can become standard practice rather than an exception.
