(Exit) KNARR - Green Pilot Tour

"Sustainable touring? I think we all try our best to make tours that are sustainable but there’s a whole ecosystem that need to work together to make that happen! We are very grateful to have EJN supporting us through the Green Pilot Tour program this time, that gives us the option of traveling more eco-friendly, avoiding air travels where we can. Our agent sparked the conversation between presenters so that logistics make more sense, and we are all saving money and energy. It doesn’t need to be that hard. Travel by train (the most preferable option) or car (where necessary) in Europe is the best way to move, but in order to make that happen we all need to communicate!! Thanks to the EJN Green Pilot Tour program and No Earplugs management for nurturing this conversation and make it happen. We also brought our own recyclable water bottles so we can avoid some unnecessary plastic bottles along the way. And venues are providing yummy, sustainable, short-traveled food for us to enjoy. Everything counts!!!" - Ingebrigt Håker Flaten

The tour

Budapest Music Centre's Opus Jazz Club organised an EJN Green Pilot tour in April 2023 working closely with No Earplugs Booking Agency and the Norwegian band (Exit) KNARR.

(Exit) Knarr came together when bass player and composer Ingebrigt Håker Flaten moved back to his native country Norway during the pandemic. A commission by Vossa Jazz festival created an opportunity to gather a group of fantastic Scandinavian musicians he had long wanted to work with, and they continue to perform together.

The artists on the tour were:
Ingebrigt Håker Flaten – bass, compositions
Erik K. Pedersen - trumpet
Karl Hjalmar Nyberg - saxophone
Jonathan Horne - guitar
Joakim Rainer Petersen – piano, keyboards
Olaf Olsen – drum

The tour involved four different dates in four different countries over five days in April 2023. The concerts were at Jazzclub Tonne (Dresden, Germany), JazzArt (Katowice, Poland), Divadlo29 (Pardubice, Czech Republic) Opus Jazz Club (Budapest, Hungary).
Opus Jazz Club and No Earplugs Booking Agency made a promotional and social media campaign promoting (Exit) Knarr EJN Green Pilot Tour. The campaign was implemented in the marketing of all the partnering venues.

Touring more sustainably

The tour was booked by Malwina Witkowska, agent of No Earplugs Bookings. The band members of (Exit) Knarr took care of all tour management.

The band travelled by a modern, fuel-efficient van between Dresden and Budapest and stayed in hotels in close proximity to the venues. The band also promoted and shared the sustainable lifestyle with the audience as part of the tour.

The band drank from recycled bottles, ate vegetarian and/or vegan food and played in venues that have a sustainable approach. They also encouraged the audience to engage in more sustainable ways of travelling and thus helped create awareness.
