Staff mobility

Wherever possible:

1. Use video conferencing to avoid avoidable travel.

BENEFITS EXAMPLE

2. Approve a sustainable transport policy, with the identification of a mobility manager, which helps staff to travel more sustainably by offering flexible working hours, incentives and facilities for cycling, and the possibility to buy season tickets for public transport.

3. Prevent air travel for distances, within easy reach, of less than 600km and offer environmentally friendly alternatives.

BENEFITS EXAMPLE

4. Provide free shuttle buses from public transport stations to facilitate transfers.

5. Provide secure parking for bicycles.

6. Hire only electric vehicles.

7. Organise staff car sharing and car-pooling.

8. Provide staff with electric car charging points, powered by electricity from renewable energy sources.

9. Promote a partnership with an electric vehicle company to offer staff discounted rates for switching to electric vehicles.

Environmental benefits

Video conferencing

Replacing face-to-face meetings with video conferencing produces environmental benefits: e.g., organising 10 meetings at a distance of 600km (travelling by train) and 10 meetings at a distance of 50km (travelling by train), the total CO2 emissions related to these travels would be 1,3t, whereas they would be 12kg if the meetings were conducted via video conferencing, therefore saving 1,288t CO2 emissions.

Travel by train and not by plane

Replacing 10 staff trips by plane, assuming a distance to be covered of 600km for each trip, with equivalent trips by train, the CO2 emissions would drop from 17.28t to 1.2t, a reduction of 16.08t CO2.
