Maciej Obara Quartet - Green Pilot Tour
The Maciej Obara Quartet embarked on a successful tour from 16 to 19 November 2023, presenting four concerts in Germany and France:
- 16/11/2023: Jazzclub Unterfahrt, Munich, Germany
- 17/11/2023: Le Périscope, Lyon, France
- 18/11/2023: Jazzdor Festival, Strasbourg, France
- 19/11/2023: Stadtgarten, Cologne, Germany
The quartet delivered four outstanding performances to enthusiastic audiences, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Each venue was full, and the band had the opportunity to introduce their music to new listeners across two countries.
A significant highlight of the tour was the band’s commitment to sustainable travel between cities. This approach not only minimised their environmental footprint but also provided valuable time for the musicians to connect and collaborate. Despite disruptions caused by a Deutsche Bahn strike on the second day, the band successfully reached their next destination without major issues.
The tour’s success was highly appreciated by both the musicians and organisers. The EJN Green Pilot Tour grant played a crucial role in making the tour possible, offering vital support for planning and executing sustainable travel. Without this initiative, organising eco-friendly transportation would have been much more challenging.
While the tour was largely smooth, the main challenge lay in the unpredictability of the railway network. Train cancellations posed logistical and financial difficulties, particularly for long and complex routes, where alternative transport options were limited. Despite these hurdles, the tour demonstrated that sustainable practices in music touring are achievable and rewarding.
The Maciej Obara Quartet tour exemplifies the importance of sharing EJN’s mission to support both artists and organisers in adopting greener practices, ensuring that international artists can continue to perform while respecting the planet.
