In 2024, precisely from February 17th, Vertigo Jazz Club & Restaurant will be celebrating its 9th birthday. Our Jazz Club was established in 2015 and has been hosting artists on its stage almost every day since then.
During the week-long birthday celebration, we invite you to the performance on February 12, 2024, featuring Jan Ptaszyn-Wróblewski. As a legend of the Polish jazz scene, he has a rich history of countless concerts, recordings, festival appearances and international escapades. Representing classic jazz traditions with a touch of modern achievements, the ensemble led by Jan Ptaszyn-Wróblewski ensures dynamic and lyrical performances, avoiding untested experiments yet steering clear of well-trodden paths. The band remains connected to its audience, with Jan Ptaszyn-Wróblewski, a key figure in Polish jazz history, leading as an outstanding saxophonist, composer, arranger, conductor, journalist, and music critic.
Another event to look forward to is the concert on February 15, 2024, by Kuba Stankiewicz Trio. For many years, Kuba has been among the top Polish jazz pianists. He has performed with Jan Ptaszyn-Wróblewski in the late eighties, he later studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, earning recognition with the Oscar Peterson Award. His collaboration with Artie Shaw's legendary clarinet and bandleader orchestra in the U.S. is definitely noteworthy. Upon his return to Poland, he formed a quartet and contributed to the Traveling Birds ensemble, solidifying his position on the national scene. Kuba Stankiewicz's diverse musical collaborations include notable names like Scott Hamilton, Art Farmer, Sheila Jordan, Janusz Muniak, Tomasz Szukalski, and Anna Maria Jopek.
In recent years, Kuba Stankiewicz has increasingly engaged in pedagogical activities, serving as the head of the Jazz Music Department at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. The trio's lineup for the 9th birthday celebration will include Kuba Olejnik on bass and Przemek Jarosz on drums.
