European cooperation between European jazz magazines in support of female musicians.
Once again this year, specialised media across Europe are renewing this initiative for #IWD2025, presenting seven young, talented musicians to discover. Previous editions—Four Women, Take 6, High Society, Now’s The Time, Giant Steps—organised for International Women’s Day (#IWD) have demonstrated the strength of a collective, multilingual edition, simultaneously published across multiple countries. As in previous years, in addition to the global hashtag #IWD2025, they have embraced the EJN’s dedicated hashtag: #Womentothefore, which specifically highlights female jazz musicians in Europe.
At the initiative of the UK’s LondonJazz News, a group of jazz magazines has been involved in all editions of the project. These include the Dutch-speaking Belgian magazine Jazz’Halo, the French-speaking Belgian JazzMania, and France’s Citizen Jazz.
After an expanded edition in 2021 that welcomed Norwegian magazine Jazznytt, the 2022 edition saw the participation of German magazines Jazzthetik and Jazz-Fun, the UK’s JazzWise, Denmark’s Jazz Special, and Turkey’s Jazz Dergisi. In 2023, the team grew with the addition of Poland’s Donos Kulturalny, the Netherlands’ Written in Music, and Italy’s Giornale della Musica. The 2024 edition brought together seven previously involved magazines and welcomed a new partner: Spain’s In&Out Jazz.
For 2025, the initiative includes six returning magazines and a new addition: Salt Peanuts, covering the Scandinavian jazz scene.
