JAZZ WORLD PHOTO 2015

The three best photographs are from Italy!

The winners of the second annual JAZZ WORLD PHOTO 2015 are now known. The international jury announced the three authors of the best pictures on the themes of jazz, blues and world music for the past year at the finale of JAZZINEC festival in Trutnov.
The three winning authors have one thing in common – all three of them are from Italy. The com- petition has seen submissions sent by 187 photographers (40% more than last year) from 27 countries, and the authors from the South European country had the best luck for original pictures.

The winner is Mr. Andrea Rotili from central Italy, the second place went to Mr. Andrea Palmucci from Pontedassio in North-West Italy and Mr. Fabio Orlando from Calabria placed third. Ivan Prokop, the International Jury Chair, said: „The Jury evaluated anonymous photographs - the mem- bers did not know the author or his/her place of origin - therefore the jurors had no idea that by extraordinary chance they selected three Italians as authors of the three best pictures. Their pho- tographs are unique.”

The three winners received their prizes in person on Saturday night in Trutnov, including the special prize created for the competition by Jan Činčera, whose creations were found interesting by Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II and the Pope John Paul II. the sold out UFFO center applauded the happy and surprised authors, as they changed guard with last year’s winners – Didier Jallais from France, Rainer Rygalyk from Austria and Miroslav Novotný from Šumperk.

At the final evening of the 17. annual Jazzinec festival we heard Richard Bona accompanied by special Czech-Slovak band invited by Michal Žáček just for that evening, Spanish singer Ms. Amparo Sánchez, Vincent Herring as a guest of Lukáš Oravec Quartet and a discovery – the group Ostrich Quartet, that placed second in the Polish-Czech competition Krokus Jazz among jazz groups under 30.

The thirty best photographs from the 2015 Jazz World Photo can be currently seen at the Gallery of the Municipal Bureau Trutnov, and from there, it will travel into other cities (possibly Banská Bystrica, Frýdlant v Čechách, Náměšť nad Oslavou, Košice, Český Těšín, Prague, Plzeň, Písek and Wroclaw).

The idea to organize an exhibition of jazz and music photographers from all around the world was conceived by the Czech photographer Patrick Marek. After the first successful exhibition, the idea developed into a world-wide competition. Its second year just ended.
The Jazz World Photo competition, with exhibitions of 30 best pictures of last year in the American Center in Prague and 30 best pictures of this year in Trutnov, will be a part of celebrations of the International Jazz Day, that will culminate on April 30 in a great concert of big stars of Jazz in Paris. The concert will be broadcast worldwide through the internet.
