The staff echange at Novara Jazz gave me a very inspiring and rich experience in the festival production, Italian network and also beautiful musical memories. I’ve met the whole team of Novara Jazz, but I was working mostly with Chiara, following her on the production assignments throughout the festival. One of the main tasks was artist hospitality - meeting musicians at the hotel, helping them get to the venue for the soundcheck and providing help and information for them before and after the show. I was also present at all of the concerts, and helped set up the stage and audience area before the show on different locations.
Working closely with Chiara helped me understand how Novara Jazz is operating as a mid-scale festival in the small city of Novara. I was really impressed by how they communicate with the audience and include them. The team extends audiences’ musical and festival experience by serving a small treat and wine after some of the shows, which seems to bring everyone together, creating a perfect occasion to chat about the concert experiences, meet the musicians and taste Novara even more.
I was also charmed by the locations of some of the concert - at the castle’s court, beautiful patio in the city centre, or an old abandoned building with a view on the Cathedral’s tower. Laying down on a grass, listening to great music with eyes closed, surrounded by beautiful corners of Novara - it truly felt like a paradise!
I also got a chance to meet and talk to Corrado, Riccardo and Enrico, all the three festival directors, and chat with them about programming of Novara Jazz. It was very interesting for me to get to know them and find out a bit more about how Novara Jazz is being programmed, what are they focusing on and how are they planning the structure of the festival.
I am really grateful for this experience and all the amazing people I’ve met. I hope to be back in Novara next year!
