"I had very interesting talks with the production team about how they manage and prepare the festival and could also work operatively at the different venues and departments"
From: Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige (Italy)
To: International Jazzfestival Saalfelden (Austria)
Dates: 15 - 21 August 2022
From August 15th until August 21st thanks to EJN I had the opportunity to collaborate at Jazzfestival Saalfelden 2022. It was a wonderful experience for me where I could learn a lot from my host festival. During my stay at Saalfelden, I had the chance to lear about the organizational structure of the festival before it startet, so that I could see how all the planning was executed during the festival. I had very interesting talks with the production team about how they manage and prepare the festival and could also work operatively at the different venues and departments such as the Gruberhalle, the Buchbinderei Fuchs and the Nexus. Furthermore I assisted at the We Hike Jazz tour and a concert in the Kollingwald, a beautiful forest in Saalfelden.
For me, experiences like this are priceless, especially in my case where the sending and the host festival are in some parts comparable realities. It really helps to compare critically and get an impression of how other festivals produce their events. The staff exchange program is a huge opportunity to gather experience and learn from other EJN-members. I would highly recommend to participate in this program and I will definitely try to make more staff exchanges in the future.
