First of all, I would like to thank EJN and the Jazzfest Trondheim Team for making this staff exchange possible. It was a great experience!
The staff exchange started on 5th May 2019 and I traveled by plane and bus from Salzburg to beautiful Trondheim. In the afternoon I arrived at the Hotel Scandic Nidelven, where also concerts took place during the festival week. Ernst-Wiggo Sandbakk, the organizer of Jazzfest Trondheim, took his time and ate lunch with me. We talked about the staff, the program, what will happen the next few days and where I might be able to help out during the festival.
During the festival week we had a daily morning team-meeting. I supported the team in several areas. I helped to accredit the volunteers and artists, set up banners, helped them with a facebook Ad and organized a facebook competition. One day I also took over the instagram fanpage jazzfest.no. I had the chance to catch up with Ernst-Wiggo during the festival again to talk about PR strategies, advertising, volunteers, the budget and much more. More than 60 volunteers work at the festival – they are a key part to success.
From Thursday on I had the opportunity to join the Jazz Expo program. Around 40 organizers and journalists attended the program. We listened to awesome concerts, enjoyed norwegian food and got a guided city tour through Trondheim. I was able to speak with many organizers and journalists and made new acquaintances.
The Jazzfest Trondheim offers several stages. The concerts are for young and old and they were all well attended. One of the most beautiful concerts took place in the cathedral Nidarosdomen. It was magical.
On Monday, 13th May it was time to say “Goodbye”. It was a week with a great team, wonderful concerts and happy moments.
It’s been a formative experience and I am very grateful.
