As a small country in the middle of Europe, Switzerland has enjoyed a very lively and diverse scene for several decades.
Based around the five universities, the major centres of Swiss jazz are Bern, Lucerne, Lausanne, Zurich and Basel. Around the schools, structures have developed which have an influence on the development of a respective scene.
Switzerland counts more than 40 clubs which regularly organise jazz concerts. Furthermore, Switzerland is one of the European countries with the highest density of festivals of all genres.
